February 7, 2021 marks the 15 year anniversary of J Dilla’s Donuts. It was his second studio album and would later be recognised as one of the most important records of the 2000s. It’s the final masterpiece of an artist whose influence still stretches into today’s hip-hop scene.

The songs have been heavily re-sampled, by the likes Drake, Nas, Talib Kweli, Jay Electronica, Big Sean and Lupe Fiasco, as well as on numerous tracks by Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes and The Roots. David Begun imagines the producer’s magnum opus as a bruising collaborative album with MF DOOM.
